Myrtle Beach, SC is the home of Ripley’s Aquarium and every year Toomey’s Kids sponsors a field trip for some of the special needs children of Horry and Georgetown Counties. The teachers plan for the trip by scheduling lessons regarding the oceans and sea creatures in their classrooms. Some of the teachers also arrange with the Aquarium to have special lectures by Aquarium personnel on the day of the trip. There are constantly new shows, exhibits and attractions at the Aquarium so that the children always have a chance to see and learn something new.
Ripley’s Aquarium is a wonderful experience for all ages, with an underwater tunnel through the fish tanks (such fun to see the fish from underneath!), a stingray petting tank, a hands-on area to pet and handle sea creatures such as horseshoe crabs, and many separate display tanks for things such as seahorses.
The kids love roaming throughout the aquarium and stopping to see the shows and watching the divers take care of the fish. It’s always great to see the wonder on their faces as they take the moving sidewalk through the tunnel and watch the fish swimming all around them. The teachers tell us the kids can’t stop talking about the trip for weeks afterward.
